Biography
Jean-Paul Otterman
Jean-Paul Opperman (Netherlands, 1980) Young Dutch artist graduated at the Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam 2005
About the work: In my opinion the world is collage of build myths in order to refill the own group wise experience of time, place, emotions like love and so on. Each build, planned, created, grown etc. structure is a statue of group wise value. When I think about art I realize that’s it’s a tool to break down this values by telling the own personal truth upon what is. This also brings up my goal that the actual creation of form is against all matters of engagement with any cultural, political or religious need enforced by those that don’t take place in the act of creation itself.
As an artist I can’t tell about what is not, what should be or what would be but what I can do is reflect the metaphorical myth of history towards my own personal truth. Imagine the own emotional statue for what it’s worth and reconsider it each day. Retelling the own appearance and let there be a rush against pictorial evolution by giving the power to the emotional aspects of form.
